Blue caves

bluecaveskleinThe Blue Caves are one of the most advertised and famous natural attractions of the island and can be visited either in your own boat or by one of the many organized boat trips. They consist of peculiar geological formations that have created a series of caves along the northwest coast of the island; they begin immediately after Agios Nikolaos to finish near Cape Schoinari.

The blue caves owe their name to the specific reflections the water inside them gets. In many of these caves one may enter with a small/ medium boat while other caves can be explored only by experienced swimmers and divers.

Halfway between St. Nicholas and Schoinari Cape you can reach a small mill by car and there, descending one hundred stairs, you get right in the middle of the coast where the caves are. In the end of these stairs there are some smooth rocks, uncomfortable to lie down and sunbathe, but ideal as a starting point to start swimming in order to visit some of the Blue Caves and make fantastic diving.
